Aspergers vs ASD When it comes to stigma, whats in a name?

Eliminating the Aspergers label and categorizing it under Autism Spectrum Disorder was one of the most controversial changes to the DSM-5. Parents and adults with Aspergers denounced this diagnostic revision, fearing that being a member of the autism group would contribute to greater stigma. Despite these popular convictions, two recent studies tested the effect of clinical labels on peer perception and concluded no significant difference between a label of Aspergers or ASD. In fact, disclosing any clinical information from the start resulted in more positive attitudes and higher chances for treatment success.
