The behavioral and motor impairments associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder manifest with degrees of severity and unique combinations that are highly variable among the population, making it a very difficult disorder to effectively manage and treat.
What are the goals of the study?
The goal of this qualitative research study is to learn more about how individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) experience virtual reality, video gaming, robotics, and physical challenges as part of their current treatment protocol. Sirica Therapeutics can then use this information to design a system with the most effective interventions using these platform.
What will happen during the visit or online?
All activities will take place virtually and there will be no requirements for in person visits. Participants will sign an informed consent letter prior to completing a questionnaire.
Participants will complete a 5-item short answer questionnaire asking for narrative descriptions of their experiences. Each participant will complete one questionnaire corresponding to the intervention they use with the highest frequency as part of their current care plan (virtual reality, video gaming, robotics, or physically challenging activity).
There are no time limits, right or wrong answers, or length requirements for the answers. The expected time to complete the questionnaire is 30-60 minutes.
How will this help families?
This research presents a strong opportunity to further the understanding, prevention, or alleviation of behavioral, cognitive, and motor impairments that profoundly limit the quality of life for individuals with ASD. The knowledge gained will improve our understanding of how to optimize interventions to help progress the efficacy of treatments for ASD.
