Racial Equity in Autism Community Health (REACH)
What's the study about?
Do you have autism? Do you identify as Black? If so, we need you!
We want to make it easier for people to access autism services. Sharing your experiences can help us do that!
Talk with our research team at the University of South Alabama about your experience getting an autism diagnosis.
We are specifically interested in talking with and hearing the experiences of black people on the spectrum.
Participants will receive $50 for their time.
Participant privacy is our top priority. All information will be kept confidential.
Who can participate?
- Autistic adults (18+)
- Identify as Black or have some combination or aspect of Black racial identity
- Received their autism diagnosis in one of the following states: Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, or Texas
- Able to communicate verbally or via written or augmented communication device
- Fluent in English
What will participants be doing?
You will complete an online survey and a Zoom interview about your experiences accessing autism diagnostic services. Altogether, participation takes between 1 and 1.5 hours to complete. As a thank you, you will receive a $50 gift card via email upon completion of the interview
Why is this important?
Racial disparities within the autism care system have been well-documented across time and geographic location. Additionally, Black autistic adults have been widely underrepresented within autism research. Sharing your experiences can help the broader autism research community advocate for needed changes within the current care system.
