The Role of Autism in the Effects of Social Media Exposure on Young Women
What's the study about?
Social media is an important context for the development of body image and eating behaviors among young women. To date, little work has focused on exploring social media use and its psychosocial effects among young autistic women and nonbinary individuals. The goal of the present study is to examine the effects of exposure to different kinds of social media content on the body image and eating related attitudes of autistic young women and nonbinary individuals.
Who can participate?
- identify as autistic (no formal diagnosis required)
- Be assigned female at birth
- identify as either female or outside of the gender binary
- Be between the ages of 18-25.
What will participants be doing?
To participate in the study, you must complete a survey that may take approximately 25 minutes.
Why is this important?
Participation in the study may help us to learn more about the effects of social media as related to body image and eating among autistic young people.
