Neurodivergent adults: share your experiences with challenging walking environments!
What's the study about?
The purpose of this study is to see how frequently neurodivergent adults are falling and what types of challenges they face when walking.
Who can participate?
You can participate if you:
• Are 18 years of age or older AND
• Identify as (1) autistic, on the spectrum, Aspie, or a person with autism/Asperger’s, (2) an ADHDer or a person with ADHD/attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or (3) both.
What will participants be doing?
Participation involves uploading a photo of an environment you find challenging and answering a few questions about it. You can participate as many times as you want to. It takes about 10-15 minutes per photo. Participation is anonymous and can be done at your convenience.
Why is this important?
Autistic adults experience falls and fall-related injuries more frequently than non-autistic adults. We want to learn from neurodivergent adults what kinds of environments make walking challenging for them. Their insights will help us find ways to make environments easier to navigate for neurodivergent adults. We hope this helps people learn about what challenges autistic people face when walking so that we can make improvements to the built environment. We hope these results inform future universal design guidelines to specifically address challenges experienced by autistic adults. We also hope to learn about patterns of falls and injuries so that we can come up with ways to reduce the risk of falls.
