What's the study about?

The purpose of this qualitative study is to better understand how partners of autistic adult’s experience and cope with challenges and strengths in the relationship. The aim of this study is to explore how couples support each other and manage stress. This study is part of the researcher’s doctoral education program

Who can participate?

◦ You are at least 21 years of age
◦ Reside in the United States
◦ Are currently in a relationship with a partner diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder
◦ Your partner is independent in daily life but may need support in some areas
◦ Have been in a relationship with your partner for at least 6 months
◦ Live with your partner

Note: This study includes those who may have been previously described as having Asperger’s, high-functioning autism, or Level 1 autism.

You are NOT eligible if:
◦ You have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder
◦ You do not speak English
◦ You and your partner are not in an exclusive relationship (for example, one or both of you have additional romantic partners
◦ You and your partner are currently in a long-distance relationship
◦ You do not have access to a camera and a microphone that can connect to zoom for an interview
◦ You have a personal or close professional relationship with the researcher

What will participants be doing?

Interviews will take approximately 45-60 minutes and will be conducted via Zoom.

Why is this important?

Research on neurodiverse relationships remains limited, particularly in capturing partners’ lived experiences. Improving understanding in this area could improve support, reduce stigma, and promote awareness.
