Mother and Infant Vocal Interaction Study (MAVIS)
What's the study about?
Duke University researchers are studying how autistic and non-autistic mothers communicate with their babies during everyday interactions. The study focuses on early communication and infant-directed speech and aims to better understand mother-infant vocal interaction.
Who can participate?
autistic and non-autistic mothers and infants
What will participants be doing?
Participants will complete one recording session with their baby and one recording session with an adult and answer questions about their experiences. The study examines communication and infant-directed speech during everyday interactions. Participants will receive compensation for participating.
Why is this important?
Understanding how mothers communicate with their babies during early development can help researchers better understand early communication and infant-directed speech. Studying both autistic and non-autistic mothers may provide a more complete understanding of early mother-infant communication and contribute to future autism research.
