A comparative study of stress in parents of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): English learners vs. Non-English learners
What's the study about?
This study examined levels of stress experienced by caregivers of children with ASD. Furthermore, it investigated to determine a difference in stress levels between EL and non-EL caregivers with children with ASD and if there is a difference in stress levels of caregivers of children with ASD based on their self-reported English proficiency levels.
Who can participate?
To take part of this research study, participants must be 18 years of age or older and English language learners and non-English language learners parents who have children with ASD.
What will participants be doing?
Participants will voluntarily complete an anonymous online survey. This includes demographic questions and a survey about parental stress. We expect that it will take about 20–25 minutes to complete.
Why is this important?
Parents of children with ASD can experience significant stress, which directly impacts overall family well-being. This study is important because comparing stress levels between different groups, such as English Learners and Non-English Learners, helps us understand their unique challenges. The findings will benefit the autism community by helping organizations create more effective, targeted support programs and resources for caregivers.
