Meeting the Needs of Young Hispanic Children with Social Communication Challenges: Developing a Culturally and Linguistically Sensitive Intervention to Alleviate Core Social Challenges
What's the study about?
The goal of this clinical trial is to find out if a technique called the “mutual gaze procedure” used in a Culturally and Linguistically Responsive adaptation of Pathways Early Intervention (CLR – Pathways) is the key to improving social communication, language and everyday skills in young (18-42 months) Hispanic autistic children.
Who can participate?
Inclusion Criteria:
• Your Family must live within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex
• Your family identifies as Hispanic or Latino.
• You have a child between the ages of 18 to 42 months old who has social communication challenges.
• Social communication challenges will be confirmed by a qualifying score (4 or
higher) on the first interactive evaluation.
• Your child has no other medical, neurological, or genetic concerns or disorders, as
reported by you.
• All parents/caregivers participating in the sessions speak and understand English or Spanish.
What will participants be doing?
Being part of this study will take about eight months.
This includes:
• 3 developmental check-ups (one check-up before the 12 pathways sessions and two check-ups after the sessions are complete)
• 12 Pathways Intervention Sessions (in your home or another convenient location)
