AUTISM SCIENCE FOUNDATION ISSUES REQUEST FOR UNDERGRADUATE SUMMER RESEARCH SCIENTIFIC GRANT PROPOSALS

Grants will fund 8 weeks of summer research by undergraduate students

(January 7, 2015—New York, NY)–The Autism Science Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting and funding autism research, today announced that it has issued a new request for scientific proposals. ASF is inviting applications for summer research awards from highly-accomplished undergraduate student/mentor teams conducting research in all areas of autism research.

“This is a unique funding opportunity that enables young scientists to gain “hands-on” experience working with highly established mentors in the field” said Dr. Alycia Halladay, Chief Science Officer at the Autism Science Foundation. “These awards will pave the way for students to establish their own autism research careers”.

“I enjoyed the frequent and in depth interactions with the children, families and professionals working in the field of autism” said Veronica Kang, a 2014 recipient of a summer research fellowship, who studied pragmatic language in children with autism with Dr. Sara Jane Webb, Associate Professor at the University of Washington, Seattle. “The experience was very rewarding and will help me continue to work toward my goal of helping people with ASD. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity.”

“This was a phenomenal opportunity for us” said Dr. Webb. “The findings from Veronica’s project are really starting to pay off. ASF has had a significant impact on the development of early career researchers and I value the support from the organization”.

Online applications and additional details on the application process are available here.

In its five years of operations, the Autism Science Foundation has funded over $2.6 million in grants including pre and postdoctoral fellowships, medical school gap year research fellowships, 3-year early career awards, treatment grants, undergraduate summer research funding, research enhancement mini-grants and travel scholarships to enable stakeholders to attend the annual International Meeting for Autism Research (IMFAR).

Support for the Undergraduate Summer Research Grants is provided by the Joseph LeRoy and Ann C Warner Fund.

The Autism Science Foundation (ASF) is a 501(c) (3) public charity. Its mission is to support autism research by providing funding to scientists and organizations conducting autism research. ASF also provides information about autism to the general public and serves to increase awareness of autism spectrum disorders and the needs of individuals and families affected by autism.
