Autistic Young Adults’ Perspectives on Critical Workplace Supports

What's the study about?

Many autistic young adults experience substantial barriers to finding and maintaining employment after high school. We want to learn from the perspectives of autistic young adults about what they think are helpful supports to employment, based on their own workplace experiences. We want to learn: What types of supports or accommodations do autistic young adults receive at work, and which of these do they view as most helpful for their workplace success? We hope that this will help us and other professionals better understand how to support autistic young people at work.

Who can participate?

You may be eligible to participate if…:

  • You are between the ages of 18-29 years old
  • You identify as autistic;
  • You have current or previous work experience (defined as a job where you received money for the work you completed); and
  • You currently live in the United States.

What will participants be doing?

If you decide to participate, you will be asked to complete an online survey. The survey will ask you questions about your employment history, your experiences with and opinions of various workplace supports, and demographic information. This survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

Why is this important?

We hope that this study will help us learn more about how to support autistic people at work. For example, it may provide information regarding how employers and service providers can better incorporate and advocate for particular workplace supports or accommodations for autistic young people.
