Social Communication Study

What's the study about?

The goal of this study is to better understand the thinking and social communication skills of school-aged children.


Who can participate?

Children are eligible to participate if they:

  • Are between the ages of 4-8 years old
  • Are typically developing OR on the autism spectrum
  • Speak English OR French AND another language (e.g., English & Arabic)


What will participants be doing?

This study involves 2 sessions of approximately 1.5 hours each scheduled 1-2 weeks apart. It requires an internet connection and access to a computer or tablet. Participants will participate in a range of activities (e.g., Complete puzzles with pictures, Find pictures that go with words, Listen to sentences and repeat them back, say as many words as possible from some groups) via screen sharing. They will receive a break and watch a video halfway through the session.

Why is this important?

This study addresses the need for more robust studies providing evidence-based advice to families of children with ASD who come from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
