Parent/Caregiver views on the communication of their minimally-and non-speaking autistic children

What's the study about?

Families are needed for a study on how autistic children who use limited spoken language communicate with their caregivers. We are asking caregivers about how their children communicate and interact with them. We want to know what parents notice about their children that may not be picked up in standard assessments or questionnaires.

Who can participate?

5-10 year-old autistic children who are minimally or non-speaking and their caregivers

What will participants be doing?

You will record yourself playing with your child for two 5 minute sessions. You will meet with a study team member 1-3 times to watch the recording and answer questions about your child’s communication. You will complete surveys.

Why is this important?

This study will help us to understand how autistic children with limited spoken language are about to communicate with those closest to them.
