Autism Study for High School Juniors and Seniors
What's the study about?
Cincinnati Children’s is conducting a research study where teens and their caregiver will be randomized to participate in either a weekly social skills intervention or a daily living skills intervention.
Who can participate?
- Have a diagnosis of autism
- Are enrolled in 11th or 12th grade (or deferring graduation)
- Have an IQ of greater than or equal to 70
- Have a deficit in daily living skills (e.g., hygiene, cooking, household tasks, money management)
What will participants be doing?
This study is almost completely virtual, however it may include 1 visit to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital lasting approximately 1-2 hours (this will be determined upon a screening phone call). There will also be 3 telehealth outcome visits and a weekly telehealth intervention session. These are the things that your teen will complete while in the study:
Your teen will:
• Complete assessments
• Answer questionnaires
• Attend virtual intervention sessions
• Complete a phone diary at 3 time points
You, as the parent or guardian will:
• Complete interviews with staff
• Answer questionnaires about your teen
• Attend virtual intervention sessions
Why is this important?
We want to learn more about treatments that lead to a successful transition from high school to adulthood for autistic teens.
